To understand Mr Clegg, the Leader of the Liberal Democrats, people need to know that he makes noises that have nothing to do with policy or government.
Before the last General Election he made three significant noises; one against student tuition fees, another against rises in VAT and the thirdagainst austerity economics in a period of recession.
None of these noises stand scrutiny when set against his record in government. So when he says we need an emergency tax on the rich, it has to be understood that this has absolutely nothing to do with policy or government. On the contrary it is all about nearly half of the Liberal Democrat membership saying they do not want him as Leader at the next General election.
His “proposals” have no substance nor detail. What would be the point? He knows they would never be coalition policy.
