The Swale campaign for the upcoming Kent County Council elections was formally launched last night (26th March) with guest speaker Andy Sawford, MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire.
Andy Sawford spoke about the failures of this government to turn around the economy, provide growth and improve living standards for people across Britain. He also spoke of the devastating impact the Coalition’s policies are having on young people and the disabled and he encouraged them to reverse their ‘Bedroom Tax’ plans. The challenge for Labour, Andy Sawford said, was to not rely on the incompetence of the Tory-led Government to help us win seats in the KCC elections and in 2015, but to provide a vision that showed that Labour was on the side of ordinary people; to promote our plans to provide economic growth, to build houses not subsidise second homes and to introduce a 10p tax rate for lower incomes rather than cut taxes for millionaires.
For the KCC elections, Sawford said we must make the case for having more Labour councillors elected to curb the excesses and waste of the Tory Administration in County Hall at a time of large cuts and bring forward the issues our communities are facing at the hands of the failing Coalition Government as well and try to minimise the damage their cuts will have as best we can.
