Swale Central County Councillor Roger Truelove and Sheerness County Councillor Angela Harrison are asking parents to get in touch about the planned closure of the Woodgrove Children’s Centre in Sittingbourne and the reduction of opening hours at the Beaches and Lilypad Children’s Centres on Sheppey (whilst these centres are not in the Sheerness division we still want to hear from you).

Kent County Council is planning to close 23 of its Children’s Centres across the county from 2014.
Children’s Centres were established for parents and children under 5, to provide nursery provision, social services for young children, health services and help for expectant mothers. They were intended to be built in largely deprived areas.
A consultation process has  now started and will continue through to October. In the Swale Central division there is no intention of closing Milton Court Children’s Centre but KCC do want close Woodgrove at the bottom of Barrow Grove and Sheerness Centres are unaffected.
KCC is saying that Woodgrove does not serve an area of great need and that many of the families that use Woodgrove, and those using the Beaches and Lilypad centres, also use other centres.
Our Councillors therefore ask people to contact us if they have concerns about the closure of Woodgrove Children’s Centre. Contact details can be found here.
