Conservative controlled Swale Borough Council has just (August 1st) started a new consultation on its proposed ‘Local Plan’. Their major idea for growth in Sittingbourne is called North West Sittingbourne and if ever developed it would have a big impact on your environment. That is why Labour is sending you this leaflet, to alert you to the fact that the
consultation is about to take place and what the Council is proposing.
Below is a map showing what is proposed.
- You will see they have now pushed up the Housing density for North West Sittingbourne to 1276 houses. This is very much under pressure from the Government
- Allocation is made for both a Primary School and a Secondary school on the site. Of course, whether that is ever developed would be dependent on the capital being available and whether the local MP and Council lobby for it
- There is provision for new roads with a junction in Grovehurst Road
Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the next General Election, Guy Nicholson, says
“My local Labour colleagues have questioned the scale of this proposal all along, not least because we do not believe it is deliverable in the current A249 corridor and without massive improvements to the junction at Key Street. Swale simply has not developed the infrastructure needed for such massive new developments”
