A week ago our Local Paper printed a story that largely led the public to think that Swale Council had squandered over £600K on an abortive consultation. The consultation was not abortive and will inform the continuing work of the Council The reality is that the Council has to do considerable amounts of work in preparing a draft review of its local plan, in response to Government pressure to allocate 1000s of new homes. The sum quoted was for the costs of that over a long period of time. Not every thing in the article was wrong but the headlines and the introduction fostered the false impression. I appreciate the fact that the paper has made this correction. The original story was prompted by a Freedom of Information request from an opposition member on the Council.
Sittingbourne News prints a retraction.
